The judiciary issues prison sentences of up to 25 years in a financial corruption case

The Criminal Chamber examining the financial corruption cases of the Tunisian Primary Court has decided to issue prison sentences ranging from 12 to 25 years for 9 defendants in a financial corruption case involving a private telecommunications company. The defendants appeared before the court on Monday, 2 November 2026, where the previous frame was tried in custody, while the remaining defendants were tried as part of a network of authorized distributors in the event of release.

The sentences issued initially and in-person included a 25-year prison sentence for the company's former executive. The prison term for the other eight distributors ranged from 12 to 24 years after they were convicted of the charges.

The legal framework for follow-up included charges of money laundering, misconduct in public funds, along with exploiting a public servant's status to derive no benefit for himself or others and to harm management.

The facts of the case file relate to suspicions of widespread financial and administrative breaches over existing contractual and distribution transactions between the relevant framework and the network of authorized distributors of the company.

The next judicial step is that the accused and the public prosecutor can appeal these preliminary rulings to the Court of Appeal, in accordance with the criminal proceedings at hand.
