The court sentenced three 18-year-old employees to life in prison for embezzling confiscated funds

The Criminal Chamber of the Tunisian Primary Court issued sentences of 18 years in prison on 30 October 2026 for three civil servants. These judgments came after it was proven that the defendants were involved in seizing funds that had been held in custody and being held for one of the court cases and damaging public money.

Field and technical investigations revealed that the defendants exploited their job positions and the facilities their administrative duties gave them to access and rob the funds. The three employees were detained and referred to the Criminal Chamber in custody after completing security and judicial investigations proving the charges against them.

The legal framework for conviction included charges under the Criminal Journal's provisions of gang formation and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault on persons and property. The list of charges against the accused also included exploiting the characteristics of the job to obtain unlawful profits and damage to the state's public funds.

The parties to the case are traced back to previous security and judicial investigations that revealed a lack of funds deposited with the judiciary, opening the door for those responsible to track down and manage the detainee. This ruling is an outcome of the preliminary proceedings, giving the defence team and the public prosecutor the right to appeal to the Court of Appeal in accordance with the scope and procedure specified in the Criminal Procedure Journal.
