How we report the news

Elyssa is an independent news channel. It is not affiliated with any party, ruling authority or funder, and its editorial decisions are made in the newsroom alone.

We practise critical objectivity: we report facts, figures, dates and names, and let the facts speak, without slogans and without cheerleading for anyone.

We report with confidence after verification. Statements are attributed to their authors by name and title; we do not build our stories on anonymous sources.

Official accounts are reported as they are and attributed to their authors, without being endorsed. What has not been disclosed is said to be undisclosed, and those concerned have a right of reply.

On every major issue we present both sides: the words of the authorities and officials, and the views of the opposition, civil society and experts. We diversify voices and do not favour any single side.

Our language is calm and precise. We do not use value judgements in our own voice; our arguments are facts and figures, not adjectives.

Freedoms and political detainees from all sides are human-rights issues that we cover without partisan bias.

We use the word breaking only for genuinely breaking news, and we update stories rather than repeat them.

We respect privacy, the presumption of innocence and the dignity of victims and minors, and we reject hate speech.

We correct our mistakes openly under our published corrections policy, and we abide by the channel’s code of professional ethics.
