Kais Saied demands a revision of the public procurement laws to stop disrupting projects

President of the Republic Kais Saied, on Monday at Carthage Palace, stressed the need to revise public procurement legislation to end corruption and disrupt the completion of development projects in the country.

During the meeting, the President underlined the importance of reviewing the laws governing procurement and public transactions in the processing sector and other areas, with a view to combating corruption and shortening the administrative space allocated for carrying out work. The meeting reviewed the progress of a number of major projects, including the completion of the road link between Tunisia and Algeria, as well as the construction of a permanent bridge to connect Jeraba Island in exchange for existing routes.

On the same day, Carthage Palace witnessed separate talks that brought together the head of state and the chairman of the National Committee for Criminal Justice Ali Abbas, followed up on the coordination of the committee's work and the path of recovery of state funds, in the context of the litigation and financial settlement process that has been in place for years.

The public procurement system is subject to the Public Procurement Regulatory Order, and the government is preparing a draft amending order aimed at simplifying contract pathways and combating suspected fraud, after a number of development projects stumbled due to complex legal frameworks and delays in administrative procedures.

The next step is to formulate legislative amendments to the public procurement system in advance of their presentation on the legislative and executive track for their official adoption, in order to accelerate the pace of dormant public works and complete planned infrastructure projects.
