The Committee on Education, Vocational Training, Scientific Research, Youth and Sports in conjunction with the Committee on Services and Social Development of the National Council of Authorities and Territories, on Friday 06 November 2026, heard from the Minister of Education on the draft budget for the Education Mission for 2027. The proposed ministry budget amounted to about 9.184 billion dinars, an increase of 5.56% compared to 2026, representing 19.1% of the total state budget.

During the session, the Minister clarified that the strategic orientations are based on developing human capital, improving the quality of public services, achieving social and spatial justice and reconsideration of public school. The ministry also observed investment credits worth 639 million dinars for infrastructure development, including the creation of 19 new educational institutions, expansion of existing institutions and maintenance of 395 institutions, as well as equipping schools with laboratories and equipment, focusing surveillance cameras, securing clean drinking water supply and adopting renewable energies.

The Minister reviewed the course of settlement and handling of about 39467 assistance during the 2025-2026 academic year, pointing out that the procedures included the file of deputies based on a database of 25769 deputies, along with civic currency, mediation, framework assistance, escort and intelligence, in addition to the mandates of teachers, auditors, technicians, engineers and psychologists, while continuing work on widening the preparatory year and strengthening digital and cybersecurity.

During the debate, MPs demanded a settlement of the pending professional and administrative situations, in particular the dossiers of MPs' professors and teachers before 2008 and 2006 and the activation of Section 107 of the Finance Act for 2026. Interventionists called for settling the status of session lecturer professors outside the database and participants in the 2021 Applied Educational Guides debate, as well as empowering post-2013 candidates with promotion, professional ranking and transportation traffic review.

Members of the Joint Committees warned of growing violence, drugs and risky behaviour in school districts, calling for a national plan to tackle these phenomena and enhance vigilance. The deputies addressed the disparity of educational institutions, the lack of safe drinking water and sanitation and the shortage of teachers, especially in mathematics and English subjects, demanding that school time be revised, private primary schools monitored and curriculum developed.
