President of the Republic Kais Saied received in Carthage Palace, on Monday 2 November 2026, the Chairman of the National Committee for Criminal Justice Ali Abbas, at a special meeting to follow the course of the committee's work and new procedures related to the path of recovery of public funds.

Saied called for speeding up the processing of submitted files and developing the mechanisms of the committee's work to avoid lengthy proceedings, while adhering to the full recovery of funds without prejudice, considering that the right remains true no matter how long and the false will remain in vain no matter how many attempts to cover it up.
This track is based on Decree No. 13 dated 20 March 2022 relating to criminal correction and recruitment, which Saied had put forward since 2012, before Parliament made a legislative revision of it on 18 January 2024 to strengthen the powers of judgment and referral of files, while Judge Ali Abbas was appointed at the head of the committee by presidential order on 8 June 2026 following the termination of tasks of previous administrations that witnessed a slow pace of recovery of funds.
The next legal step is for the Committee to complete the audit of reconciliation claims and determine the value of financial settlements, in preparation for its submission to the National Security Council for a final decision on the adoption, mitigation or rejection of the reconciliation amounts.
