Doctors at a hospital in Sousse decide to strike for three days

The university doctors at the University Hospital in Sousse decided to go on strike on November 17, 18 and 19, 2026.

Three consecutive days of work stoppage involves pressure to improve the clinical practice environment and provide the necessary work equipment. The union's list of demands includes disbursing late payments to doctors, ending frequent abuse within hospital spaces and improving field working conditions to maintain the quality of care.

No clarification has yet been issued from the Ministry of Health or the hospital administration regarding official approved arrangements to regulate the flow of emergency work. The Tunisian legal framework and the Employment Journal require regulators to ensure a minimum of medical services and cover critical emergencies to ensure the safety of patients during the period of absence.

The move comes from a previous protest track, where doctors carried out a four-day red flag in July 2026 to condemn worsening working conditions and the lack of basic facilities. The doctors' union's move is based on the practice of trade union rights guaranteed by the Tunisian constitution after a settlement of pending files with the supervisory authority failed.

The parties concerned are waiting for a reconciliation session to be held under the auspices of the employment inspectorate and the local authority to consider pending professional claims.
