The Ministry of Social Affairs announces programs for inclusion of people with disabilities in 2027

Minister of Social Affairs, Assam Red announced today 5 November 2026 in the Tunisian capital of new programs and directions that the ministry intends to implement during 2027. These programmes aim at people with disabilities to transition from a care approach to full social and economic inclusion.

The announcement was made during a joint parliamentary hearing at Parliament's headquarters that brought together the Health and Social Affairs Committee, the Assembly of the Representatives of the People and the National Council of Authorities and Regions to discuss the draft budget of the ministry. The mission's appropriations amount to more than 4215 million dinars, of which 18 million dinars were allocated for the vulnerable economic empowerment programme, while integration mechanisms continued to be strengthened.

The Minister explained that these directions are based on what was previously agreed in the social security system and the disability card established by the local committees and granting multiple treatment, transportation, food and administrative privileges. The joint agreement with the Ministry of Health on the cultivation of medical shell for the benefit of the children of poor and low-income families, after the adoption of compensatory and easy-to-incorporate machinery reached 5.5 million dinars in 2026, will continue in an effort to cover claims by 100%.

These policies are based on a pathway aimed at ending the scarcity of direct care assistance and pushing people with disabilities towards independent economic activity through dedicated funding and processing programmes. These interventions are integrated with the services network for low-income groups to ensure wider access to the labour market and public services.

The Ministry is heading for its next step towards completing the preparation of the 2026 wheelchair deal and formulating the terms of the framework deal for the acquisition and purchase of home ventilators for the years 2027 to 2029. These programmes are pending approval by both Houses of Parliament of the Ministry's draft budget, which is due to come into force at the beginning of the new financial year.
