Cassation Court in Gabès Sentences Activists of the 'Stop Pollution' Movement to Suspended Six-Month Jail Terms

The Court of First Instance in Gabès has sentenced 12 activists, including the coordinator of the 'Stop Pollution' movement, Xerif Din Debia, to six months in prison with suspended execution.

The charges relate to disrupting the freedom of work following their peaceful protests against industrial pollution in the region.

The case was brought by the Tunisian Chemical Group following a peaceful protest in 2020 demanding a clean environment.

The ruling comes amid ongoing trials of civil society activists and environmental movements in cases of general rights.
