Tunisia's coastline is experiencing thunderstorms as temperatures drop at night

Tunisian coastal areas are experiencing a volatile rites of intermittent hail and scattered thunderstorms, with a marked drop in temperatures during night periods ranging from 16 to 21 degrees Celsius in most places. These climate fluctuations, which began on the night of Thursday 29 October 2026, are concentrated along the northern coastal strip before gradually spreading to include the country's eastern coastal regions.

A forecast publication from the National Institute of Meteorology reported nighttime temperatures falling to about 13 degrees Celsius in the western highlands, while the rest settled within normal autumn levels. This weather condition was accompanied by the formation of local thunderstorms that led to scattered rainfall that included a number of coastal stations.

The National Institute of Meteorology confirmed that the current atmosphere is characterized by transient thunderstorms that have caused varying amounts of beneficial sediment to fall on coastal areas. Observer experts explained that relatively cold air blocks have contributed to reducing the temperature differences recorded in the evening and night periods across most of the country. These fluctuations come as a continuation of the sporadic autumn disturbances and rainstorms witnessed by parts of the Tunisian and northwestern coastal strip during the period from 22 to 28 October 2026. Daytime temperatures recorded during that period ranged from 20 to 25 degrees Celsius in most areas, while reaching 18 degrees Celsius at high altitudes.

Airborne monitoring interests continue to monitor the movement of low-lying airspace over the western Mediterranean basin, with periodic early warning settings set up to form any additional local lightning cells that may be accompanied by heavy rain or frost in the coming hours.
