The syndicate confirms that the decision will come into force from 1 November due to the accumulation of financial debts and the exceeding contractual capacity which deprives patients of direct pharmacovigilance.

The Tunisian Syndicate of Private Pharmacy Owners has announced the entry into force on Sunday 1 November 2026 for all private pharmacies of a decision to suspend work as a motivating party with the National Fund for Disease Insurance. This would mean stopping dispensing medicines to participants through this system in all pharmacies, turning social insurers into a prepayment mechanism and recovering expenses later.

The Syndicate reiterated this decision to continue to break the Fund's pledges to save its intact financial liabilities and exceed contractual limits, as well as the continued difficulties in supplying medicines and shortages on the market with worsening tax burdens on professionals.

The activation of the decision came after the National Expanded Trade Union Authority approved this measure at its meeting held on 27 October, after financial solutions to ensure continuity of service were not reached. This was preceded by an official notification from the National Trade Union Office to the Fund's management and interested parties since 19 October to inform them that it is impossible to continue with the contractual formula without settlement of arrears.

The pharmacist's move is based on the provisions of the sectoral agreement governing the relationship between the parties, which clearly sets out the Fund's obligations to pay dues within specified legal limits. The Syndicate expects to communicate with the Fund's management to coordinate mechanisms and procedures for handling prospects' files and facilitate their access to medicines, confirming its readiness to end the suspension as soon as new official data are received supporting the settlement of material claims.
