Telephone payment transactions in Tunisia are set to record 10 million transactions by 2026
The Central Bank of Tunisia records the completion of 5 million telephone financial transactions worth 914.2 million dinars during the first half of this year.

Results recorded during the first six months represented 31.5% growth in terms of number of transactions and 17.7% increase in value compared to the same period of 2025. The first quarter of 2026 saw the implementation of 2.7 million phone transactions worth 487.6 million dinars, while the total active e-wallet reached 512,000 wallets at the end of last June.
The issuer's banking supervision report shows that this development is matched by a weakness in the exploitation of open accounts by the country's five qualified and active payment institutions. Although the number of open accounts has risen to 113,739 accounts with Muffy December 2025 versus 78930 accounts in the previous period, only 12,843 accounts remained active, equivalent to 11.3% of the total after the ratio was in the 30.2% range during 2024.
This situation was reflected on the financial balances of qualified institutions which incurred aggregate losses of 17.3 million dinars by the end of 2025, despite increasing numbers in their operations. The accounts of these institutions are different from the total e-wallets that include banks and other payment providers in the Tunisian market.
By 2025, 8.4 million telephone transactions had been recorded with a total value of 1.769 billion dinars. To support this path, the Central Bank in September 2026 approved new regulatory measures that included raising payment account ceilings to up to 20,000 dinars for tier 3 accounts.
