The Criminal Chamber of the Military Court in Tunis has issued a preliminary ruling sentencing Alfate Hamedhi, the leader of the Third Republic Party, to four years in prison, with fines totaling 80,000 Tunisian dinars.

The sentence is divided into two years for each of the two separate cases, with a fine of 40,000 Tunisian dinars for each case.

The court has charged the opposition politician with conspiracy against state security and incitement of military personnel to disobey President Kais Saied.

Akmel Mousa, the defense lawyer, clarified that the ruling is preliminary and subject to appeal to the competent judicial bodies.

Hamedhi faces these rulings after being detained in prison since February 15th.
