The Department of Commerce decides additional discounts on consumer prices
The Ministry of Trade and Export Development has announced a new round of extraordinary discounts and differential prices for several commodities including fish, cod and oils in major commercial areas.

The Ministry of Trade and Export Development announced, today 29 October 2026, the approval of an additional payment of exceptional discounts in the prices of a number of consumer products, in coordination with the major commercial areas, to take effect on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November. These measures aim to provide weekly differential prices for a number of basic foodstuffs to boost purchasing power.
The Ministry reported that these reductions come as a follow-up to a series of meetings it held with representatives of major commercial areas, and after similar reduction measures were implemented throughout October to cope with rising living costs and declining supply for some agricultural products. These measures coincide with a reduction in poultry prices on the central market.
These decisions are based on the regulatory framework for competition, prices and anti-monopoly regulation, which allows authorities to intervene to set trade profit margins and impose maximum price ceilings in exceptional circumstances to reduce market fluctuations and protect consumers.
In the next phase, the Ministry is aiming to continue the weekly programme of discounts throughout the year, with a focus on pricing additional products including potatoes and tomatoes, in parallel with intensified field controls of wholesale markets and detailed follow-up to adherence to planned pricing.
