The Department of the Interior is urging users of the south entrance to adopt alternative routes
The Ministry of Interior urged users of the southern entrance to the capital to exercise caution and behave alternative roads to avoid the congestion resulting from the continued demolition of the Lakanya Bridge at the end of the school holidays.

The Ministry of Interior urged users of the southern entrance to the capital to exercise extreme caution and adopt alternative routes to avoid anticipated traffic congestion, coinciding with the end of the first semester of the 2026-2027 school year. These traffic directions for commuters from within the Republic to the capital come after the partial conversion of traffic resulting from the continuation of work on removing the old Lakania Bridge.
The ministry identified multiple alternative routes to alleviate traffic pressure, including the behaviour of National Road No. 1 across the Radès Stadium curve passing through the Medina Jedida intersection of the Radès Gorge and then the Radès Bridge, La Goulette. The layout also allows the direction through the intersections of El Ouardia 1 and 2 towards the Piazza del Pape Aliwa and the Rivolon Bridge and the halfway bay up to the Moroccan Arab Street to avoid suffocation points at the southern entrance.
The Ministry of Planning and Housing confirmed the continued partial conversion of traffic at the southern entrance level to the capital by Air Route 22 to complete the demolition of the facility. Technical data showed that the completion rate of demolition work on the old bridge was 100% in the direction of Hammamet, versus about 75% in the direction to Tunisia.
These field and legal works are part of the second tranche of the public project to expand and prepare the southern entrance to the capital and develop its routes to accommodate increasing pressure. The security and transit measure was preceded by a similar directive on 24 October 2026 with the start of the school holidays to regulate Golan traffic and secure road users' transportation.
According to official dates, the complete demolition of the old bridge and partial conversion of traffic is expected to be completed by Tuesday 3 November 2026.
