The head of the National Bar Association, Abu Bakr al-Tabtabai, called for a large protest on Saturday to defend freedoms without hesitation or fear.
Eight opposition parties joined the movement, including the Democratic Current, Republican, Workers', Alliance, Horizons, Pole, Socialist, and Path.
In contrast, the Manouevre Party faction of Manji al-Rahi refused to participate in the protest.
MP Fatma al-Masadi stated that the march will not erase what she described as the crimes of the decade of assassinations against the people and will not grant anyone a clean bill of health.
