The draw for the 27th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations women's national team handball tournament was placed at the top of the third group, following a draw that took place yesterday in Ivory Coast's capital Abidjan at Club Africain's headquarters. The national team plays in the preliminary round against Cameroon and Zambia alongside the qualified team from the fifth African Region.

The cities of Nabeul and Hammamet will host continental tournament events during the period from 2 to 12 December 2026, with teams competing in the finals with the participation of 16 African selectors. National elements are preparing to take the tournament to their home country with the aim of competing on continental advanced ranks, as part of efforts to reserve a pass card for international forums.

Approved tournament regulations and continental competitions give top five finishers direct qualification cards to the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup finals.

The Tunisian national team holds its historic record of 3 African titles crowned in 1974, 1976 and 2014, while the Angolan national team tops the continental record with a record 16 titles.

The next step for the organising committee is to establish a nomination round for the Fifth African Region in early November 2026 to identify the fourth team to complete the third group stage before the official competitions start.
