The Sfax Court of Appeal is looking into the file of 38 Agareb activists
The court is holding a new hearing to review prison sentences issued against environmental protesters amid party and rights calls to stop stalking and expose the clothing of deaths witnessed by security movements.

The Sfax Court of Appeal held a new hearing on Tuesday, October 27 to consider the file of Maniche Movement activists filed with the local Agareb delegation. The case involves prosecutions involving 38 activists and citizens from the region, spread over five different cases linked to environmental protests witnessed by the local delegation during 2021.
The Sfax 2 Primary Court had on 8 June 2023 issued preliminary sentences that sentenced the defendants to prison terms ranging from 8 months to two years, after charging them with disrupting work and damaging public and private property in connection with their participation in those movements.
The Republican Party claimed full responsibility for the situation, demanding in a statement that blackouts be stopped, deaths recorded and ongoing prosecutions of environmental activists be stopped.
The backdrop of these popular moves is the people's demand to enforce an earlier court ruling issued by the Agareb District Court on 11 July 2019, which ordered the immediate closure and removal of garbage, while civil and legal circles are pursuing field tensions that accompanied security operations in Agareb, Jebiniana and Ettadhamen.
The course of the case awaits the completion of defence team proceedings in preparation for final appeal decisions on the rights of those involved in the follow-up.
