The Ministry of Transport claims 4 million dinars in losses from the attacks on its fleet
The sabotage lasted more than 400 buses, train cars and subways with 362 assaults on convoys recorded in two years according to official statistics at Ben Arous.

Transport Minister Rashid Omri today announced on Saturday 31 October 2026 in Ben Arous state that direct material losses caused by the assaults and vandalism of public transport amounted to about 4 million dinars between 2025 and 2026. The announcement was made during the launch of the 3rd session of the Public Facility Protection Initiative, organized by the Ministry of Youth Culture and Sports with the participation of representatives of ministries and government institutions.
The minister revealed that the physical damage included damaging more than 400 public buses belonging to the public facility as a result of fracturing and throwing stones, along with destroying and breaking subway cars and trains.
Amri reported that the ministry has recorded at the human level that 362 drivers and public transport helpers were physically and verbally assaulted during the same period while performing their field duties. He stressed that protecting the public facility and its supports requires joint efforts between the relevant structures to reduce the escalation of these actions on transport lines.
The legal system's pursuit of these facts is based on the Criminal Journal texts and regulatory legislation for transport safety and protection of public property and public employees in the exercise of their functions, which criminalize assault on vital state facilities. Ben Arous had previously witnessed field events led by the National Railway Company to raise awareness of the risk of stoning trains and their physical and human consequences.
The proposed steps include involving the relevant ministries to intensify security patrols around transport, launching awareness campaigns in schools and allocating a sensational Friday speech. The programme also includes a proposal to set up a joint national committee to monitor and reduce attacks on public transport facilities at the field level.
