Trade Ministry Regulates Prices of Locally-Sourced Rice

The Ministry of Trade and Export Development has officially regulated the prices of locally-sourced rice sold by private traders in the local market. The ministry has set the price for locally-milled rice at 3900 millims per kilogram for the general public, and 6900 millims for Basmati rice.

The ministry has required private traders to submit their files in advance before each delivery, with threats of severe penalties for non-compliance. The decision came into effect simultaneously with the return of the commodity to store shelves after months of absence.
