The Ministry of Commerce and Development has officially regulated the prices of locally-sourced rice sold by private traders in the local market. The price of locally-milled rice for the public is set at 3900 millims per kilogram, while Basmati rice is set at 6900 millims.
The ministry has required private traders to submit their files in advance before each delivery, with threats of severe penalties for violations. The decision came into effect simultaneously with the return of rice to store shelves after months of absence.
