LTDH branches in Sousse, Monastir and Mahdia on Saturday denounced disrupting the delivery of books and correspondence to detained lawyer and rights activist Ayachi Hammami. The legal structures indicated that administrative procedures were being imposed to obstruct his direct contact with his lawyer and family members inside his detention center.

Human rights groups have confirmed that the Mahami is on a monthly hunger strike in protest at his harsh conditions of detention. The association called for a protest and solidarity pause in front of the Monastir civil prison to demand an immediate end to these restrictions and his immediate release.

The authorities had suspended him on 2 December 2025 in execution of a final judgment issued by the Court of Appeal on 27 November 2025 that he was serving a five-year prison term with administrative supervision for two years. This verdict falls within the framework of what is known as the State Security Conspiracy case that has plagued politicians, lawyers and activists since February 2023.

Human rights calls had previously been issued to organize a protest in Monastir in solidarity with Ayachi Hammami and to demand that the abuses be stopped and he be released.

Rights activists and pro-democracy organizations are preparing to carry out the field strike declared in front of the prison headquarters in the coming period. The move is aimed at pressuring the prison administration to improve its conditions of detention and lift restrictions on access to books and personal correspondence as soon as possible.
