Protesters Burn Factory in Bouzouf After Man Dies in Crash

The city of Bouzouf in Nabeul Governorate witnessed a surge in public anger and the burning of a fly larvae breeding factory following the death of a man in a vehicle collision near the facility. Protesters broke into the industrial facility and set it on fire after the man, Hussein al-Daridi, died from his injuries.

The protests were a continuation of previous demands by the local community to close the factory due to its proximity to residential areas and vital facilities. The public prosecutor in Nabeul inspected the body and ordered its transfer to the forensic doctor, opening an investigation to uncover the circumstances of the incident and determine responsibilities.

In a statement, Rim al-Saghir, a member of the Chamber of Deputies, said that the regional authorities in Nabeul failed to fulfill their duty and close the factory despite decisions to close it and revoke the license from the main factory in Kermabalia and the factory in Bouzouf. The inaction and failure to implement the decision by officials contributed to the escalation of the situation.
