The Ministry of Trade and Export Development has officially regulated the prices of locally-sourced rice sold by private traders in the local market. The price of milled rice was set at 390 dinars per kilogram, while Basmati rice was set at 690 dinars per kilogram.
The ministry has required private traders to submit their files in advance before each delivery, with severe penalties threatened for non-compliance.
The decision came into effect simultaneously with the return of rice to store shelves after months of absence.
