The National Observatory records the highest number of traffic fatalities in Tunisia
National Traffic Safety Observatory statistics show 1,141 people have died in 4,102 traffic accidents since the beginning of the year amid a decline in the total number of accidents and injuries.

Official data showed 4102 traffic accidents on various roads in the country, resulting in 5293 injuries of varying severity.
The recorded numbers reflected a 13.19% increase in deaths compared to the same period in 2025, which had seen 1,008 deaths fall. In contrast, the total number of road accidents decreased by nearly 9.95%, from 4,555 last year to 4,102 in the current period, as well as a 12.13% decrease in the number of injuries after reaching 6,024 in the corresponding period.
Statistical analyses have highlighted that carelessness and inattention are the main factors leading to road traffic accidents. Collected data showed, however, that speed remained the direct and primary cause of the greatest drop in casualties and casualties in these collisions.
Monitoring of these indicators is within the mandate of the Observatory based on the Road Journal and the Traffic Safety and Prevention Legislative Texts. Intermediate structures use this statistical data to set out field action plans and pursue the objectives of the National Multisectoral Strategy for Traffic Safety programmed for 2025-2034.
