Officials of the Ministry of Planning and Housing on Thursday 29 October 2026 in Tunis signed a commercial contract for the reconstruction and rehabilitation project of the El Menzah Olympic Stadium with representatives of the Chinese Contracting Complex. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Minister of Planning and Housing Salah Zuwairi, Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Murali, and Ambassador of the People's Republic of China Wang Li, as a prelude to the fieldwork at the math teacher.

Official financial estimates of the transaction indicate a total cost of between 520 and 600 million dinars taking into account all performance. The technical process includes handing over the completion of the demolition and construction to two Chinese construction and engineering companies to rebuild the entire runway and track, upgrading safety systems, mass flow and processing facilities, and streamlining energy consumption.

The agreement comes after the Grand Project Committee's decision on 8 October 2026 to hand over the entire project deal to the Chinese side upon completion of the formal and contractual procedures. The decision is based on the failure of the previous preparation work that started in 2022 and was later halted due to technical problems and structural deficiencies that appeared in armed concrete and reinforcement of the fabled facility since 1967.

The next step is to complete the remaining administrative procedures for the entry into force of the contract, start bringing in equipment and set up an intervention site for launching large-scale field work with a specified completion period of between 30 and 36 months.
