The court decides to close the black fly factory in Menzel Bouzelfa
Deputy Reem Jr. announces a court order to temporarily shut down the Nabeul state blackfly breeding unit until environmental and security investigations are completed.

The judicial authorities issued today 4 November 2026 a decision ordering the temporary closure of the factory for black fly larvae by the local delegation Menzel Bouzelfa in Nabeul state. Representative of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People for Menzel Bouzelfa Rhim Jr. announced that this measure would stop the entire facility's activity until ongoing research and investigations into the plant's environmental profile were completed.
Deputy Rem Jr. explained that the decision to shut down was made following escalating protest movements and the headquarters fire incident, noting that security and judicial investigations involved a number of civilian activists and citizens in the area.
The area had seen an open strike and continuing popular protests by Menzel Bouzelfa's residents against the project, due to health and environmental concerns associated with the emission of odors and gases from waste recycling and nearby plant from residential neighborhoods.
Subsequent security investigations included the recall and detention of about 40 activists and citizens to investigate the incidents of violence and fires at the industrial facility. Investigations are continuing under the supervision of the Prosecutor General and competent judicial authorities to determine criminal and environmental liabilities in preparation for the final decision on the legal fate of the plant and its future activity in the region.
