Municipal University has declared a general strike on the 13th and 14th of May

The Executive Office of the General University of Municipalities, Saturday 7 November 2026, decided to implement a sectoral strike in various municipal interests on 13 and 14 January 2027. This protest move came after extensive consultations by the trade union structure with the Public Service Department to consider disrupting the negotiating path with the responsible official bodies.

The trade union structure made clear in its professional list that the decision to stop working comes against the background of the Ministry of Interior and Environment not interacting with the professional demands raised and previous agreements.

The university's executive office confirmed in its announcement that the union party had made repeated requests for a formal working session with the relevant ministries, but they remained unanswered. The University considered that the continued neglect of official correspondence constituted an obstacle to the implementation of pre-agreed commitments for the benefit of the sector's stakeholders in all recruitment facilities.

The course of this move is due to an earlier decision announced by the Regional Municipal Administrative Authority in its professional regulation dated 1 August 2026. The original text of the regulation included provisions for improving professional conditions and implementing agreements that remained frozen with supervisory government structures, prompting the trade union structure to set a deadline for action after dialogue attempts were exhausted.
