The Tunisian government announced on October 29, 2026, the signing of a new contract for the renovation of the Olympic Stadium in Ettadhamen with a Chinese conglomerate, with a cost ranging between 520 and 600 million dinars and a completion period of up to three years.

President Kais Saied had visited the Olympic Stadium in Ettadhamen on June 3, 2022, and called for speeding up its renovation. Despite earlier promises to complete the project by November 2024, the works were halted after it was revealed that only 20% of the work had been completed by November 2023.

In September 2023, the Ministry of Youth and Sports acknowledged the halt in works and promised to resume them soon. However, after four years and four months since the project's launch, the new development is limited to signing the renovation contract, with the actual start date of the works still uncertain.
