Hisham al-Maki criticizes Kais Saied's performance and late presidential achievements

Tunisian media outlet Hisham al-Maki criticized President Kais Saied's performance, furious at the continued promise of close decision-making and results despite seven years since his arrival at Carthage Palace.
Al-Maki explained in his statement that the head of state has for seven years enjoyed very broad powers, but the official speech continues to talk at every dawn near decision-making and the inevitability of achievements without tangible actual translation. He pointed to the focus of various executive and legislative authorities on the President of the Republic, considering that the repetition of pending promises has raised questions about the effectiveness of administrative and political performance.
Al-Makki's remarks come amid frequent criticism by opponents, rights activists and media outlets of the current regime, who accuse the authorities of concentrating power and delaying addressing ongoing economic and social crises, with warnings for late night and early morning decisions and official statements every day.
Kais Saied had assumed the presidency after winning the 2019 elections and taking the oath of office on 23 October that year, before announcing on 25 July 2021 extraordinary measures including the dismissal of the Prime Minister and the freezing of parliamentary powers and later resolving them, to adopt a new constitution through a referendum on 25 July 2022 enabling him to have executive and legislative powers expanded, and then to contest presidential elections for a new mandate on 6 October 2024.
The Tunisian arena is currently awaiting the completion of the establishment of the constitutional institutions provided for in the 2022 Constitution, headed by the Constitutional Court, alongside facing the state's ongoing economic and financial obligations.
