Tunisian Human Rights Defender Calls for Emergency Status in Prisons
A deputy head of the Tunisian Human Rights League, Njâta Zemâri, has called for an emergency status to be declared for prisons in Tunisia due to the critical conditions.

The Tunisian Human Rights League has called for an emergency status to be declared for prisons. Deputy head Njâta Zemâri highlighted the critical conditions in prisons, which have worsened due to overcrowding.
The human rights organization has reported frequent water and electricity cuts, as well as the appearance of skin diseases such as scabies. Over 30 deaths have been recorded in Tunisian prisons since the beginning of summer.
Zemâri emphasized that the situation inside Tunisian prisons has reached a critical level that requires an emergency status to address the humanitarian and human rights issues through improving detention conditions, a demand she has been making for years.
